Dr. John A. Pierce received his Ph.D. degree in 1986, from the University of California at Riverside (UCR) in the field of chemistry, with specialization in analytical chemistry. In 1980, Dr. Pierce received the Bachelor of Science degree from UCR with honors in two majors: biochemistry and chemistry. Upon completion of his doctorate, he was a research fellow in Switzerland at the Institute for Plant Biology of the University of Zürich (1987-1989), where he conducted research on the structure and function of the melanin pigment in the mushroom Agaricus bisporus using Fourier-Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR) and solid state Fourier-Transform Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (FT-NMR) spectroscopies. He then returned to UCR to lead projects (1990-1993) on improving the monitoring of air pollutants at the Statewide Air Pollution Research Center and the College of Engineering Center for Environmental Research and Technology. This work led to an appointment as an Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University (1993-1995), where he taught graduate courses on Urban Air Pollution and its Health Effects, and Techniques of Environmental Sampling and Analysis. He also directed a research program on monitoring biogenic emissions of volatile organic compounds while at Loma Linda University. In 1995, Dr. Pierce returned briefly to Switzerland as a Visiting Professor in the Institute for Plant Biology at the University of Zürich, before becoming a consultant on the chemistry of medicinal herbs and plants. Dr. Pierce consulted primarily on the implementation of laboratory instrumentation and procedures for the analysis and processing of medicinal plants and herbs. As of June 1998, Dr. Pierce is working full-time as the President of Alden Botanica LLC . Dr. Brian M. Pierce received his Ph.D. degree in 1983, and his M.S. degree in 1980, both from the University of California at Riverside (UCR) in the field of chemistry. His doctoral dissertation research involved laser spectroscopic studies of vitamin A derivatives in the visual pigment, rhodopsin. In 1978, Dr. Pierce received the Bachelor of Science degree from UCR with highest honors in two majors: chemistry and mathematics. After completing his doctoral studies, Dr. Pierce joined a major US aerospace company in 1983, as a Member of the Technical Staff; and has been with this company until the present day, where he is now a Senior Principal Engineer. Dr. Pierce's current work encompasses the management, technical direction, and marketing/new business of high-level technical projects and programs. Dr. Pierce maintains strong contacts with the international academic community, for example, he was a Guest Professor at the Technical University of Denmark for three months in 1988. Dr. Pierce has 13 US patents awarded, with a fourteenth US patent pending. Dr. Brian M. Pierce assists Dr. John A. Pierce in managing Alden Botanica LLC. |
